About Roux
Roux ("we", "our", or "us") is a personal AI cooking assistant available on iOS. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Roux app.
Information We Collect
Account information: When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address to create your account.
Recipe and cooking data: Recipes you add, cooking sessions, meal plans, and shopping lists you create within the app.
Taste profile: Dietary preferences, cuisine preferences, cooking skill level, and post-meal feedback you provide. This data is used exclusively to personalize your Roux experience.
Voice and text queries: Questions and requests you send to the AI cooking assistant during cooking sessions.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the Roux cooking assistant experience
- To personalize recipe recommendations and meal plans based on your tastes
- To sync your data across your devices
- To send you cooking reminders and notifications (only with your permission)
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Third-Party Services
Roux uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Supabase — authentication and secure cloud database storage
- Anthropic (Claude AI) — powers the AI cooking assistant, recipe import, and personalization features. Voice and recipe queries you send are processed by Anthropic and subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Apple Sign In — optional sign-in method, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy
- Google Sign In — optional sign-in method, subject to Google's Privacy Policy
On-Device Processing
Roux uses on-device speech recognition (Apple's Speech framework) and an optional on-device voice model for text-to-speech. This processing happens entirely on your device and is never sent to our servers.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored locally on your device and synced to secure cloud servers powered by Supabase. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest.
Your Rights
You may request to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app settings or by contacting us at privacy@cookwithroux.com.
Children's Privacy
Roux is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
